Why don't these amp manufacturers just bite the bullet and make us an amp with the needed monster coils?

Rob -- The TL-922 is such an amplifier. Larger diameter conductors are progressively used as freq increases. It is my opinion that whoever designed the 922's tank had a good working knowledge of skin effect, and that whoever designed the AL-1500's did not. . Not only are the 922's conductors sized to compensate for skin effect, cooling air is sucked through the tank in order to keep the inductances cool.
