Thanks Rich; it is a shame the 922 isn't being made anymore.

Thanks Will for pointing out the obvious about aluminum. If I had
thought about it more I would have realized the soldering difficulties
as i once briefly thought about using aluminum wire for antennas
and dropped the idea for that and other reasons after about 5
minutes.

Hi Will,

thanks very much for these observations. I apologize for not giving more information. I naively thought the photos would be enough. interesting what you said about the low frequency coil, as I have heard that having it wound on a solid cylinder form may be a problem (heat buildup?).
I wish I had one of the original h.v. transformers. I would be glad to send it to you but I guess the shop kept it. your comments about coil tube thickness and plating very interesting also.
Why don't these amp manufacturers just bite the bullet and make us an amp with the needed monster coils?

Rob -- The TL-922 is such an amplifier. Larger diameter conductors are progressively used as freq increases. It is my opinion that whoever designed the 922's tank had a good working knowledge of skin effect, and that whoever designed the AL-1500's did not. . Not only are the 922's conductors sized to compensate for skin effect, cooling air is sucked through the tank in order to keep the inductances cool.
