But a pair of 3cx800a7's should last well over 20 years in ham service
if not overdriven or overheated......so tube choice based on $$ alone
may not be wise. Buy the absolute best amp available that meets your
needs and never buy another. Mod it as necessary to make it the
"perfect amplifier". That way you may get your moneys worth. Sure, it
will hurt when you cannot buy the next big amp to hit the market but if
total cost is your criteria how will you cost justify replacing that
which is working fb? IMO the SB220 was the best ever value in ham
amps. I have never owned one, was not smart enough to buy one way back
