Amen, Norm. If a tube exhibits questionable leakage with a cold cathode, things are probably not going to magically get better when the cathode is hot. However, with proven glitch protection and a resettable circuit breaker, the chances of damaging an amplifier with a leaky or gold-sputtered 8877 are minimal.

Alex,

I for one would not want to test your 8877 tubes in my working amp
without first having them hi-potted at at least 8kv

This is directed mainly to the downunder members of this list.

I have two 8877 tubes which I believe are in good condition but I have no way to give them a live test.

Is there anybody who has an amplifier using this tube, who would be willing to try my tubes out?

I would rather deal with somebody in Australia, due to shipping issues and costs but would consider others if necessary.
