There's another easier way to get rid of that pesky varnish:
A Bic butane lighter and a wee bit o' ScotchBrite.

Heat the wire until the enamel smokes and fires off.
Be careful to not sniff too much smoke, the silicon
stuff is really nasty and makes for sneezes.

Just burnish the wire with the ScotchBrite, tin, and
yer all set!
