Hi Bill,
Your 8877 will be better (simpler & more economical to assemble, lower
distortion, greater reliablity) than almost any transistorized thingy.
I've seen a few of the telco supplies at surplus outlets (the last one I saw
was part of a cell-phone site) & on Evil-Bay but, I've not noted the details
(make, model) as I've no personal interest in those. The pricing of new units
would likely be somewhat prohibitive.
