Gents, suppose a guy wants to build
a *portable* 1.5KW output amplifier.
Would a 8877 be a good tube to use
for that or is there something
better, more rugged, etc?

The key to the matter is weight and
volume, not to mention vibration
stress.

What do you consider portable?

How long a set-up are you considering?
A weekend, a month?

What type of transport for the gear?

How will you containerize the
equipment?

Someone on this reflector actually
had a two-piece Alpha 77Sx in
a hotel room.

In other words, there are many
considerations. Would you care
to elucidate?
