One thing to keep in mind - the input impedance of a GG amplifier is strongly
influenced by the output tuning of the amplifier and the output levels of the
amplifier. Hence the suggestion that checking the input VSWR should be done
with the amplifier loaded into a dummy load and all tuned up at nominal
operating conditions.

I have a question about the other end of an amp. I don't own a monitor,
but could an MFJ-259 be used to tweak the bandswitched input tuning
coils of an AL-811 by sweeping the input (while keeping the keying relay
manually closed)?
