Kevin:
The 3CX1200A7 is probably the most forgiving tube in your circumstances.
Ameritron has the AL-1200 with that tube in it. It's also an "instant on" amp
with no warm up time required. 73 from Fern VE7GZ

Subject: [Amps] Tube Recommendations

Hello Everyone,

It's been a few years since I was on this list but I am looking for some
advice. I currently run a Tokyo Hy-Power HL-1KFX solid state amplifier
which I like very much. It puts out a dependable 600 watts on all bands.
but, I've flirted a bit with the idea of running a little more power,
perhaps a KW out the pipe. My budget currently wouldn't handle the expense
of a higher power solid state amp so I am looking at options or a possible
trade with someone who wants a compact, quality amp for travel, DXPeditions
or similar uses.

I am totally blind and so want to avoid possible damage to my amp through
not being able to constantly keep track of meter readings such as grid
current. So, I am asking for some recommendations. Which of the high power
tubes are most bullet proof against inadvertent over driving and the like?
And, what amps out there run these tubes? I would really appreciate
thoughts on this.

thanks much and very 73 to all.

Kevin :)
