4PR1000A
made by EIMAC
These were 4-1000A tubes pulled off the production lines , tested and
conditioned for around 40kV or 50kV plate voltage. This was done by slowly
increasing the plate voltage
a until it arced over, backing off a bit and increasing it more until the
target voltage was reached. The idea was
that the arcs would knock off the tiny sharp points on screen grid that
caused the arc.
They are usually duds by the time they are removed from service.

I believe one person was referring to the 3-1000H which was a lower mu
version of the
3-1000Z and was usually used in industrial power oscillators. Power
oscillators have a
problem getting started under load if the zero drive plate current to low.

There was a very strange version of the 4pr1000A with a heat sink.
It was intended to be placed in an oil bath and operate at very high
voltages and
pulse currents for use mostly in old CAT scan systems.
