Bill, back in those days many, if not most, of us were building our
amplifiers. As a result, there was a lot of "chatter" about them at club
meetings
and on the air. With all that chatter came the old wives tales and
technical misunderstandings.

Since then, most hams just buy their amplifiers and there is little
discussion about them other than here and similar web sites. So, you don't hear

as many of the old erroneous technical blurbs. In fact, you don't hear very
many technical blurbs of any type.

Ok, it's possible someone misquoted him to me, or it might have been
in a magazine article. If he really never said it then I apologize
profusely, but I know that misinformation floated around for a while
in the early days of GG amps as used by hams, back in the 1950's and
'60's. It was given as the reason GG amps don't require
neutralization.

BTW, I was the high bidder for Orr's 1981 handbook on eBay and I'm
looking forward to reading it. I also have a bid on a much older
version too. Should be interesting.

As my friend AC0C said, I have been seriously handicapped without an
Orr book on the shelf. Fortunately, my employers all believed in
hiring the handicapped. :-)
