Interesting.  So I guess the question is "why?"

Why would powdered metal work better?  Is it more lossy at HF?

For what it's worth - I have found ferrites to be all but useless at HF
for preventing RFI, even when used in large numbers. I have had much
better success with powdered iron toroids.
