I am inquiring on behalf of another ham who is thinking of purchasing one of
these two amps. There is no question that there are differences between
these two that go towards justifying the near 2 to 1 price differential. Can
anyone who owns either or both of these amps please convey their experience
with the equipment? The intended application is occasional use for DXing and
contesting on mostly SSB and perhaps digital modes. Its first use may be for
an upcoming mini-DXpedition, thus the choice of a light weight amp. Assuming
the ALS-600S works as advertised and is reliable when operated within its
design parameters it is hard to justify paying twice the price in this
situation. Personally, I own an AL-80B tube amp that has had very limited
use on a DX island but has worked well.

I understand that both have repair support in the continental U.S. That
alone, is very important.

Feel free to send replies directly if you want.

Aloha, 73
