Topic: Blower used for an 8877
For my dedcated HB 6 m 8877 amp I'm using an old blower unit pulled from a
commercial FM TX which used a single 4CX1500 tube. It was made for Collins and
is about 50 years old but cleaned up nice, has rubber isolation mount, balanced
brass squirrel cage in the blower, etc. Found it on e-Bay last year.

I'm looking for specific blower recommendations for a HB 8877 amp.
(blower maker and model #).
Everyone says use a Papst blower because they are quieter. I use a
Papst fan in my HB 2x3-500 amp.
I have several blowers here. The ones that obviously move enough air
are WAY too loud! The quiet ones I'm not sure about. They seem to
move plenty of air, but don't produce the amount of water level
change recommended by Eimac.
I built a liquid tube manometer gauge to measure the back
pressure. Only the loudest can deliver the minimum 0.41 inch change
in water level that Eimac recommends for the 8877. Surely, there are
compromises that work just fine.
What blower are you guys using in your single 8877
amps? Recommendations, anyone?

The EBM-Papst model G2E085-AA01-01 will be sufficient for the 8877.
Of course, any blower will cause more noise then a fan.
If the tube is not run at full dissipation you can always reduce the blower
voltage and by that the noise level.
I use the G2E085 with 3x3CX800A7.

There are charts that relate blower speed and impeller diameter to cfm.
Since the Eimac listing is for CCS commercial duty we hams get some slack at
least for SSB/CW.
EBM-Papst appears to have the tightest tolerances and lowest friction which
do cut down on the noise, especially when using a lower rpm motor.

Several years ago, I worked on a FM transmitter that used a very large
diameter blower with a cast-aluminum housing with a small inlet and
outlet, and it was very quiet. Maybe the sound-dampening of the thick
aluminum and the slower rotational speed, but it could have been put
in a remote box and the air fed to the amp with a flex hose and all
you would hear would be the air.

W6PO Amplifier, That I use Key Down on EME with WSJT for a 60 Second

and also push air around a 4-inch, 90-degree acoustic
sweep and out six feet of 4-inch hose. Cast aluminum
housing, roughly 77 CFM at 0.41 inches of water.
54 dB A-weighted, less when installed correctly and both
intake and exhaust are properly treated.

Actually Carl, the Ameritron AL-1500 part number (410-3737) crosses to
a *G2S085-AA19-15.
Ameritron stocks the part number you posted but it has no mounting flange.
