Ah perhaps the real underlying issue here David is the modest degree of
technical knowledge and understanding required nowadays for folk to obtain a
ham ticket. The qualification requirements have been so dumbed-down that
many newcomers don't properly understand the deleterious consequences of
buying poorly designed commercial gear having poor IMD performance that
creates and exacerbates the no-win spiralling vicious circle you refer to
with objectionable CB-like transmissions.

I'm referring to the reality that their failure to regulate commercial
junk has made it necessary to use higher power to overcome the RFI.

I have no desire to see the Ham bands become any more CB-lite than they
aready are ...
