Does anyone have any experience with LPDA antennas made by Tennadyne (hope
I spelled that right). These are twin boom designs on 12 to 30 foot
booms. I am thinking of using one and would sure like to know of the
experiences of others first! THANKS

0131-0159Z

Got home from a matinee concert and dinner out with family at 0130.
Found 20M hopeless, and 40M covered with local noises and XE SSB.
20M was a big disappointment, since I had spent a large portion of
my Sunday afternoon nap time in the full-strength sun just to put
up a 20M antenna for the INT.

Worked everyone I could find above the crud. Wish I had skipped
dessert and come home earlier--this was big fun.

39 Q's in 29 Minutes = average rate of 161 for the test...hmm...
next time, better skip dessert.

No bogus names heard this time, but BEVO is rough on an old Ag.

Big sigs: WA2SRQ, W9WI, NA4K. Everyone was up and down. Condx were
poor.

Rig: TS830S, about 80 watts out.
Ant: 20: full size quarter wave vertical on the roof with
four radials. 40: ditto.
No computer (just the trusty old AEA CK-1--with no programming--and
a number two pencil)

73,
K5GN

GridLoc Contest results -> KB1GW
Operated about 8 hours.

A severe cold-front came through Connecticut last Tuesday with winds of >50
MPH.
Pine branches got into my 2-element (Cubex) quad, snapping a driven element
spreader off at the spider. The quad is wired for 10/15/17 and 20 meters.
On Friday evening, I cranked down and folded over the tower, removed the
offending branches from the quad wires (which remained attached to the
broken spreader).
I pulled the 8-inch stub of the broken spreader out of the spider and
reinserted the 12-feet or so of remaining spreader into the spider. Put the
quad (with sagging wires) back up in the air. Then, of course, on Friday we
had a storm of the solar variety. Spent Saturday gently soliciting contacts
on 20-meters, (above 14.250!), as it snowed outside! Sunday saw 50 degree
WX and the snow melted away -- along with winter?

Most ops seemed to enjoy the contest. Had many QSOs with those who don't
usually get into contesting, but thought they would give me a contact. Many
liked the "easy" exchange.
-I like the format and wish more had joined in. This could be a great event!
-There were 67 op's (out of 140 contacted) who did not know their grid
square.
-Here in the US, with condx the way they were (NO EUROPE!) the "middle" of
the US may have had the best shot at a decent score. Look out if Europe
comes into play!
-Heard someone on 20 meters KA5WSS(?) with over 300 Qs.

If anyone knows of a Propagation list or reflector, please send me a
note direct. I did enjoy KH6BZF's postings last week.

Similarly if someone would like to volunteer to set up a mailing list
and/or Web page to carry KH6BZF's propagation info, I think that would
be a terrific service. Followup directly to KH6BZF directly if you are
interested.

K8MR sprINT: 20 - 17

            Total - 79

Another first time entrant here. I was far enough east to work a
few W6's at the start, but on 40 my skip hole covered most of the
activity. I kept getting beat out by K7GM and K8JLF who had
slightly longer distances to wherever. N6TR was loud on 20 at
2345Z but puny by contest time. I hope it was really Hayzoo that
he sent me. Give me credit for sensing something wrong with
"Randarr" and asking AB6FO for enough repeats until he sent all
the dots.

I liked the Sunday night time. I don't think my wife even
realized I was operating a contest. Unfortunately my fifth grade
daughter came down at 0020 to announce that she just remembered
she absolutely had to have a new notebook for school on Monday.
Off we went, stopping at the local Kinko's which had it and also
a very slow line. I lost 25 minutes in the process.

Waste of the contest: AA0EI in Nebraska called in at 0157, gave
me #2, and said "thanks Steve" or whoever I was that QSO. Hope
he returns in the real Sprint in September!

My first SprINT after moving back to Santa Barbara. The views and
weather are great, but conditions sure stink.

14 Q's in the first 30 minutes on 20. Moved to 40 early and paid for it,
but 20 was worse.

Operated from the club station (hence the venerable callsign), very
sleazy antennas, both tuned for the high end of the phone bands. My
plan is to get some antennas up at home before the next SprINT, obviously.

K6TZ (N4TQO op) starting name: NIMNO

20M 18 TS-930SAT 120W
40M 57 generic tribander and dipole @ 40'
Total 75 paper, pencil, Curtis EK-430, Jones paddle (sorry, Tree..
               TR for sure next time)

Congrats to Tree and Jeff, and to WQ5L and NV6O who were both cranking as
well. AA5BT wins the *LOUD* award. Looking forward to seeing everyone at
Visalia and Dayton.

Hi, gang. Thanks to those of you who waited for me to finish sending my
call. For those of you who didn't, well I understand! ;-)
Condx were simply dreadful on 20, even though K6LL said I was LOUD in AZ.
My yagi leaned over in the wind a few weeks back and is now safely laying
on the roof pointed due west (oversight!) I had to use the tuner to load
it, but I did work a few of you. 40 was very noisy, but a much better
producer.

20mtrs -- 46

40mtrs -- 66

total 112

What happened to my name??? ;-) I sent Billy the Kid to K4PQL and didn't
get even Billy back until at least QSO 45. Yeah, I know it is a lot to send
but I was interested to see how it would fare. Well...

It was great fun despite the punk conditions. K8HVT won the most QSOs with
12. Actually, 13. We QSOed just before the test! 73, David 'RX

Nobody ever tells me that when I have the amp on but I often hear this
from people in the SprINT. Perhaps I have the amp wired backwards....
Rig (at campus club W5EHM) is a TS830-S, 100W out, but into a tribander
and rotary 40m dipole on top of a building that puts the metal up about
120 ft, which doesn't do any harm at all to the signal.

Next time I'll use the amp to cut down the signal a bit...
