Looking for a book to get you through the hours of CQing this fall? How
about the World Wide Contest Handbook by K3EST?

Just got my copy and it is quite a reference. Everything you could ever
want to know about the history and top scores of the CQWW. Where else
could you find the all time high CW multi-multi score for American Samoa
(KH8) or top QRP score from P29? [Look it up yourself]

The Annotated Rules are worth the cost in themselves. All those things
you wondered how the committee would rule are explained with clear examples.

For ordering info, contact CQ Magazine. Or try K3EST via K3EST@netcom.com.

I suggested in my last message regarding the Omni-6 that the side tone was
not adjustable from the front panel. I received an email from someone that
suggested it was... Sure enough it is... The reason for my mistake?

>From the manual:

3-8.0: Rear Panel Adjustments: The controls on the rear panel are
generally "set and forget" adjustments based on operating preferences.

3-8.1: Sidetone Controls: Both the pitch and volume of the CW sidetone are
set to personal preference by the pitch and level controls. Sidetone volume
is independent of the front panel AF gain.

No mention that I can find of the ST button that is obviously controlling
the sidetone from the front of the radio also. I feel like I'm reading a
manual for a different radio. There is also a reference to a SPD key for
scanning speed. No such button on my radio. How about 3-1.6 referencing a
[FAST] key that affects the tuning rate of the VFO knob. No such key on my
radio. How about 3-3.3 for setting something called the 10 min timer... Hit
shift-[DIS]. No DIS button on the radio.

Ten Tec users: Is it generally accepted that you should have to call the
factory to learn how to operate the radio properly?

Thought this might be of interest to the group...
