I always knew there was a huge advantage to living in a packet-challenged QTH,
such as Denver. There's no chance of "stacking the deck" with hundreds of
packet-generated QSO's. With our 4 cluster nodes, isolated from the rest of the
world, I'm really looking forward to the 10 QSO's that will result when one of
the locals recognizes my voice from W6A. I guess that superior skills
developed from years of operating in the black hole will just have to win out
over east coast club favoritism. :) <----- note smiley face

Re: WRTC/PacketCluster
One of the problems with all this umbrage concerning WRTC/Spotting/Friends/
Club Members/ect/ect is that the people you want to reach are not on this
reflector. It is a well none fact that there are no contesters on the
contest reflector.
The contest reflector was a well thought out subterfuge of the left coast
INTELigentsia. You newbees/wannabees, haven't you ever heard of the
Trey Lateral Commission? The Trey Lateral Commission members consist
of a secret band of top contesters from around the world who seek world
domination under one contest ruling body!
The whole purpose of the WRTC Contest is an abstract plan to test the
subliminal implantations which has been going on in this reflector and
to have a world wide meeting of its representative delegation.
Any "real contester", would not spot his Friends/Club Members/Ect., but
it will go on, and since there are no contesters on this reflector,
much of these infractions will originate from this reflector membership.
I really don't enjoy kicking a dead horse in the head repeatedly, but
if the DQ Contest rules were present on this reflector, it would clean
up this place. The inane non contest banter is not any different than
tuning up, without checking the frequency first, because you just don't
care and are going to do what you want to do anyways or the possibility
exists that you may just be plain stupid. If this is the case, I apologize.
Please, "Get a load dummy!"

I like everybodies insight an opinions here. I operated W0QQQ at Kansas
State Univeresity between 1972 and 76...and that was a great call, cause
everyone remembered it. Good on SSB...hell on CW in the old days. Thanks
to memory keyers, it wasn't that bad later on....but without the memory
keyer...it was a fist buster after 24 hours.
I agree...there are good 1x3 calls out there form contesting...some better
on SSB some better on CW.

Thanks for all who responded. All answered that the cups were
delivered in May. I had sent my question to contest@arrl.org,
blunt@arrl.org, and one of the contest assistants over a period
of two weeks and didn't get a response from any of them. Now
I just have to see if I can get the cup. Hopefully they have
some left.

Give it up! There is no way the playing field will ever be leveled for
all the vistors. They KNOW they are going to lose.
WRTC is more about a big party than it is about a contest. A Visalia of
sorts for contesting's Big Guns and the weenies all pay thru the nose to
rub their elbows. How much was that picnic for an "outsider" ??
Hold the next Cycle-Bottom-WRTC in Budapest where you have their
stations, their propagation, their packet systems and short-skip good
ol' boys, and see if some statesider wins that...

The Vanity call program will have quite an impact on contesting
beyond just the obvious "what was K5AM's old call?" questions--the
who's who lists will be busy.
Jerry, WN9JAT, I believe correctly gets the feeling that 10,000
people have much the same lists for the first 25. Unless people get
creative, I can see individuals sending more than one list of 25 to
the FCC! Unfortunately, what will happen in Gate 2 is that a whole
bunch of people will apply to change their "personal" club call.
Thus, many of the best 1x2 calls will go to "clubs" where a good
primary callsign already exists. Unfortunately, many of these new
club calls will receive little use. IMHO the FCC should not have
changed their rules to allow club calls to be changed in Gate 2 if
the trustee is an extra. I think the club calls should be allowed,
and should be allowed to be changed, but only in Gate 4. This was
the way the wording I believe was originally intended. How it got
changed is anyone's guess.
So, too late for the above, so I am still going to enjoy seeing what
calls all the top contesters get for primary and secondary calls!
Now we will have to remember two calls for a bunch of guys.
Other contest related issues (and maybe DX): In the middle of the
CQWW a heavy duty contester who is also a heavy duty DXer works VK0WH
with his new club call on 80 meters. Well, he needs VK0 on 80 with
his real call, so works him again. Or this guy needs VS6 on 40, and
the VS6 is a heavy duty contester who will submit a log--the first
guy then works the VS6 with both calls. Bonk! Contest illegality.
How many times in SS are we going to see log entries that go :
851 "primary call" 853 "club call" ?
You see what I mean. I guess I have used up my share of callsigns,
and they have all been pretty bad, so whatever I get I will be happy
with because "I" chose it.
The QSL printers, badge makers, and call book people are sure going
to love this program.

files. You need to send it in the form of email. Also please state your
full class on it, not just Single OP. If you do you go into the unlimited
class.
