Subject: 160M test from Colombia
Message-ID: <199702072057.MAA24077@concord.televar.com>

I'm back from my trip to Colombia and would like to share these observations
of the 160M contest as heard on my hosts Sony car radio (continuous coverage
from 30 to 30000 kc's).

It was difficult to only listen to the test, my fingers kept looking for the
INS key to send the exchange.

The roving security guards thought that was nuts and/or a M19 spy......

I clipped the following out of Jimmys 3830 posting and added editorial comment:

CALL HRS SCORE Q'S PTS ST/VE DX

Strangely.....aside from P4's no other SA/Carib stations heard......did
anyone work any????

Heard a number of W6's way down in the mud, a few W0's the same......few
east coast, no AF. My listening time was limited due to thunderstorms,
pesky miniature mosquitos, the Colombian Army helicopters and a drink called
Aguardiente. My qth was near Melgar, down in the jungle near the equator.

Isn't this a non-amateur alerting system. Is this allowed??

Ernesto:

You seem to bring up good questions. I recall your inquiry about changing
the WPX CW contest dates. Did you ever get any answers? I dont remember
reading any response from the CQ WPX Contest officials.

Internet DX spots. This is another good question. Our local cluster is
'hooked up' to the internet most of the time. That means we get lots of good
spots via 2 meter RF. That wasnt always the case. I wondered how to
interpret the rules when I was getting data from WU3V via my telephone.
There was discussion here but once again, I dont remember reading any
response from any Contest officials. Hey, you guys correct me if I missed
those posts.

We get a lot of opinions here on the reflector but I dont ever see final
answers. How do we resolve these types of issues?

Yes, lets move the WPX CW away from a USA holiday weekend and crummy
conditions and QRN. Yes, lets allow Internet spotting... whats the big deal
here?
Finally, lets hear answers from those that make rules, either yes or no.

PS> Ernesto, dont stop asking just because you dont get any answers.
