USA hams...The ARRL may start a discussion about band segments for 160. Two
things need to happen to really get the ball rolling. (the ARRL board
meeting is 2 weeks away)
1st The IARU must be willing to get involved as this means world wide
organizations.
2nd The world governments must allow more uniform allocations of 160
operation. Most countries are still stuck with 1830 to 1850. Japan still
has the narrow 5Khz band above 1.9Mhz and Korea only allows 1800 to 1820khz.
For this to work at least the 1.8 to 1.9 band must be allocated to amateur
radio world wide.
However, the IARU community can start to formulate "strong" gentlemen's
agreement that the band be set up as:
1800 to 1830 CW only
1830 to 1840 DX window
1840 to 1850 Dx window SSB
1850 to 1900 Phone
Maybe we keep 1900 to 2000 as unsegmented.
Or whatever you think is right (the above is just an example).
Call or write your ARRL director and make your point on this issue.
Members of IARU clubs can do the same to their officials.
One thing you cannot count on is to get the FCC or any regulatory body to
place actual bands..these will be volunteer at best. We can jawbone to help
get these accepted.
What are the benefits...Phone will not wipe out the CW bands and CW will not
wipe out part of the phone portion each year. The DX windows will be more
accepted as 3790 to 3800 or the lower 10Khz of 80 and 40 CW. Most of the
controversy dies with solving this situation.
Start now...and lets make 160 even better!
