Hi Jerry,

Check the seating of the two IC's in the PLL unit (they are the two in
holders)
they tend to get dirt on the contacts, gently lift them up and squirt 
freon  on
the socket, then push them firmly in again.

The PLL unit is underneath the speaker after you have taken the top off.

Undo the several screws on the aluminium (aluminum) can and you will see
the chips.

Hope this works for you (and anyone else who has this reoccuring problem).
