>How does one's operating techniques change with a view to big stations and
>smaller, weaker stations?

I received a response that this question was not understood so I'd like to
add a clarification.
I would like to hear from the big guns---what small pistol operating
techniques have they heard that have worked?

An example of differences in technique:
For me, getting the OA of my call sign heard seems to be my biggest problem
in SSB contesting. I've come up with some strategies/different phonetics
to use on the repeats (try to stick to standard phonetics for first
try).... for example, the CQing station copies OOD...I'll say Oscar Alpha
Delta, Oscar America Delta so that hear the wrong one in two different ways
so that it both clues them into which part is the problem and gives them 2
ways to hear the problematic letter.

On the other hand, when I was playing from a big Colorado contest station
with 1500w one evening, I didn't even have to think of the OA
problem---EVERYONE heard me! As a weaker station, I have had to develop
techniques to be heard that I expect are not so much part of the big
station consciousness. On the other hand, if I were to operate from that
kind of exceptional station more frequently, I'd have to concern myself
with other operating techniques that do not apply to me here like working
big pile-ups, switching antenna directions, hearing versus being heard.

What works?
