At the 6Y2A multi-multi in the WPX last weekend, the combination of wind, surf
and rain on the metal roof made it completely obvious which headset was the
hands-down winner. On-the-ear sets like my beloved, light-weight Sennheisers
were useless. Over-the-ear sets like the Sony and the Heil were usable but you
still needed to turn the gain on a K2 up to the max. Ed Muns W0YK brought the
new Bose active noise reduction set; the little one designed for jet
passengers, not the big, heavy one designed for piston planes. You may have
experienced these in American Airlines expensive seats recently. Putting them
on was like walking into a soundproof room! Leaving them on was a pleasure. Ed
even slept in them one night! Even if you aren't camping in the rain, these
things will eliminate muffin fan
noise and dramatically reduce fatigue. Everyone agreed they want a pair. Other
ANRs may also be good, but I'm not waiting to compare. This is so much better
than anything else I've ever used that anything better would be at best just
sprinkles on the icing on the cake. I'll find a way to mount my Heil boomset on
them for my occasional foray into phone contesting. I sent a Fathers Day
request off to my family mid-contest!
