Globs are also made by (heat generating) continuous arcing, which could be 
charge bleeding or corona caused by excessive charge arcing/streaming at the 
tips. (See 80m mobile antenna tips vaporized/blobed/melted, heated and burned 
off 
by corona). Done it with 500W, had to tape the silver spoon to add 
capacitance and prevent the corona (not beer :-).
Lightning strikes would vaporize, melt away poor wires.
