Tom,
This is a great opportunity to consider creating a blog on the ARRL web site
and begin to document this sort of thing for all eyes to see. Unless Hans had
copied the note to the list, we wouldn't have the benefit of the
interpretation. Of course, only 1200 people on the list now have this
knowlege...and of course, the most cynical among us may think that Hans made it
up and ascribed it to you. :)
Regards,
Ev, W2EV

Subject: [CQ-Contest] Check in SS
Rather than wonder about it, I asked "the Desk". Nobody checks with FCC and
you won't be DQ'd for the wrong check in SS.
Next subject?

Hi Hans,
Many amateurs like to let others know when they were first licensed. The
exchange during the SS gives them an opportunity to do so. There are, however,
many folks out there that don't remember what that date was or choose not to
divulge it for personal reasons. That's OK. For log checking purposes it is
important to use the same check number during the entire contest.

Subject: "Check" in SS?
Does anybody at the contest desk really give a rip what "check" I send in SS,
so long as I use the same one all weekend long?
