There are two different chip sets used by manufacturers of USB to serial 
port converters.  So it is not people's imagination that some converters 
will not work in with certain software applications.  And you can't tell 
by looking at the box which chip set is used.  Your best bet is to see 
what model works for others and use that.  Price is not a guideline.  
The more expensive ones usually won't work ant he cheaper ones will!
