TT:

I picked up (but didn't purchase) a CFL bulb package the other day and
read that the gizmo contains mercury. The package simply advised something
along the lines of, <Dispose of in accordance with your local laws regarding
mercury> and <In case of bulb breakage open room windows for several hours.>

Has anyone looked into their own local laws regarding mercury disposal?
Will we have to stockpile the dead bulbs until a suitable, geologically-stable
respository has been constructed in Rocky Flats?

There is a huge variability in RFI among various brands and models. In
theory, they meet FCC standards (Part 15? or maybe exempted as lighting
equipment or because the switching rate is low enough or...), but that
might be a pretty loose standard.

Some trial and error is called for. And, then, even if it's the same
model, it might still be variable, as they change manufacturing
processes and designs.

BTW, the noise is mostly carried on the power lines, and radiated from
there, so perhaps some heavy duty RFI filtering (close to the lamp)
might help?
