By bringing up NASCAR, I was not trying to have everyone use the same
radios/antennas/compete on a level playing field. That is what the
WRTC is for.
Rather, I wanted to point out that there is no "secret stuff" in the
cars. To a large extent, everything is out in the open.

That is what open logs do - see what your competitor did, and
hopefully it helps you improve. He can do the same with your logs.
As we have also seen, open logs also lead to new and interesting
possibilities that no one could forsee prior to this happening.
Consider the 2RE paper that was created using last years logs. This
could help the SO2R operator do a better job by focusing his efforts
on 2 radio events... Prior to this paper being published, I don't
think anyone could have forseen this, or perhaps the top operators
already knew this, and kept it quiet. Who knows what other
interesting things can be gleaned through additional analysis.

With contesting, one cannot "buy" their way into the winners circle.
One needs to earn their way in - through hard work and lots of chair
time. Open logs do not change that in the least. Open logs are just
one more source of information. It is the decisions the operator
makes minute to minute for the duration of the contest the determine
the winner.
