It would be quite simple (I think) to calculate points according to the length 
of a qso (that has been done for ages in 2-meter  contests). Whether a qso is 
short or long path is irrelevant here, LP qsos are a minority anyway... 

You wouldn't even need to exchange the grid info (very complex, would take all 
the fun of running a pile up) , all calculations could be made after the 
contest, based on the grid info sent by the ops... 

Who would win would be a thrill up to the last minute before the final scores 
are published...
