After the contest ended, I was curious to see if I was in the RBN data
base. To my amazement, I was! This in spite of the fact that I was
purely S&P and never sent CQ during the effort. I don't see this as a
weakness in the RBN system, but rather a strength. It is pretty cool
that the various RBN stations recognized me just from my normal S&P
operations. Seeing the variety of signal strengths at the various
stations gives me a better feel for my station's characteristics.
On the other hand, it also makes me wonder how useful those spots are
during the contest. If RBN spotted all the S&P ops in addition to
those running, then of what use is the information from an operations
perspective?
