Andy, there are at least a half-dozen ways of filtering out Skimmer spots if you don't want them, either at the cluster node or in your client software.

Check out the Reverse Beacon Network at
http://reversebeacon.net,
blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com.
For spots, please go to your favorite
ARC V6 or VE7CC DX cluster node.

A lot of this seems to be the Skimmer/RBN network reporting the station
the runners are working.

Probably not anyone cheating in the manner you describe.

I found this a LOT. (Among all the other busted calls).

One datapoint to support this: I just looked up my call at RBN. It
appears that I was spotted 30 times this weekend.

However, I was 100% S&P during the contest. I did not call CQ at all this
weekend.
