If more people feel they have a shot at winning the 24 hour category or
being in the top ten, and they can do so without killing themselves, then
perhaps they'll be more motivated to operate, improve their stations, etc.
Right now, the vast majority of contesters are looking up a very steep hill,
knowing that they have no chance at placing high because, for one reason or
another, they can't put in the hours.
Why do we have a low power category? Why not force the people who don't have
amps to compete with the people who do? We have a separate low power
category because we want to give low power operators a chance to compete
with other low power operators and maybe win or make the top ten.
Similarly, let's give people who can't put in 40+ hours an opportunity to
compete with others who are in the same boat.
