Go back maybe 2-3 (?) years ago and there was a long discussion about the check, its meaning, what should you use etc. I think it was in this group. No conclusions I recall.

Personally I just copy what is sent.

Bob: The rule does say "The last 2 digits of the year of first license",
but I doubt anyone will be penalized for not following this rule. Our club
call was licensed in 2006, and a lot of people had trouble with the 6, but
we stuck with it anyway. --Mike, WV2ZOW

There MAY be another phenomenon re 1980's checks...

(Daughter) K3MIM was initially licensed in 1989 (as KA3UBJ).

When starting 'serious' SS/SSB (from the W3LPL dx-contest station) she
found "89" generated a lot of repeat requests.

So she changed to "08", the year she got K3MIM (or maybe her Extra).

Now she gets some "sure it's not '89'?" questions :-)

Just maybe others licensed in 80 - 89 have changed their checks?
