Ken,

I don't think that anyone is arguing that the activity is lacking in CQWW
because it isn't. I believe this whole discussion revolves around the scoring
system not being fair.

I would like to see that same data which shows how many people outside the W1-4
call areas have a score that is in the top 50.  Plus I remember hearing less
than 5 percent even operate more than 30 hours or so in a DX contest. You think
that might have something to do with unfair advantages and it's just not worth
the effort for the return you get. I think much of the increased activity has
to do with the fact that many of the participants not really being contesters
but DXers. Activity has gone up due to the emergence of the point and shoot
operator using either skimmer or spotting networks. That technology wasn't
around 15 years ago.

You comment is typical of what I've heard from east coasters over the years.
I sure love the mentality of those of you that enjoy propagation advantages of
living on the Atlantic coast. "Well if you don't like it then move here" or
some similar comment. Well why not change the rules so that doesn't matter.
Give me one good reason someone in North Africa is given 3 points per contact
to work EU. Same for those in the ABC islands in the Caribbean? My friend's
N2NT and W2SC get screwed every year they operate from the Caribbean in zone 8
despite the fact they often have the most QSO's and multipliers because of the
unfair scoring system.

Personally I would never consider moving to the hustle and bustle of the east
coast just to do well in a radio contest. I'm just fine where I'm at and can
get my fix once a year going to the Caribbean.
