I have been to Dayton only once. What was obvious to me was that Dayton is
about friends catching up and hanging out together.
Not trying to ignore the good arguments made by others, but I do believe DARA
and the ham community at large can make lemonade out of the lemon. Forget about
the junk yard, aka flea market, and focus on socializing and networking events.
Think global rather than just Midwest.
How about changing the date to align with Field Day and have a field day field,
similar to WRTC. There must be tons of other ways to turn the event into a
giant ham community gathering.
I also think ignoring the families is a mistake. Comes coming as a family means
more hotel rooms sold and more revenue for the venue/area, making it more
attractive to the venue. If Dayton is being described as a giant flea market
serving cheap hams that don't want to pay for parking...well, the venues
offering to host it won't me much different than Hara.
