Mike, VE9AA replies:

Matt and Martin are wise. I have been saying this for the past 2 years.

Although I have little doubt that most WRTC ops are very skilled, there are
probably still a few here and there that may not be the team leaders were it
not for power cheating, packet/telnet/assistance cheating, log padding, and
lastly, not cheating per se, but we all know those guys with MASSIVE
stations that are completely unbeatable.

Should always the guys with the deepest pockets or sneakiest attitudes go to
WRTC or would you rather see the teams who can compete in 4 field days on a
level playing field and win, go?

What other "sport" has people qualifying using completely different
methods/assistance?

Do you see Honda Civics racing against Ferraris in the 1/4mile? (or 100
other metaphors)

Seems obvious to me.

Personally, I would rather compete in a field of 50 fellas and come in at
the 25th level, knowing that my teammate and myself were truly the middle of
the pack, as opposed to being 4th or 5th in the WRTC standings, always
wondering what might have been, because the (qualifying) playing field is
far from equal.

RM2D:

I support Martin on this.

Regional events (we can discuss how many) will be THE ONLY fair selection

method.

There is too much dirty games going on in WRTC qualifications. We all know

about this. We know that not necessarily the best operators qualify.

I am for a system than 100W field day operations determine the best

operators.

To qualify with SUPER stations and with 1 kW+ power levels, is hypocrisy.

If we want the elite of the elite, then skip this qualifying system that

stimulates/promotes power cheating. Arrange 4 controlled regional field day

operations in 6 continents. Select a fixed amount of teams and bring them

all together in WRTC every 4 years. Let teams qualify, not team leaders!

How many power cheaters do we have in 2018 TL positions? I can tell there

are MANY! That is VERY BAD for our hobby!

Let us be serious and clean the rotten fruits from the basket - and make

WRTC a doping-free competition!
