Years ago, when I worked in the oil field logging business, my crew and I
ran very sophisticated equipment to log/map newly drilled wells offshore
California. Some wells were 11,000 ft to 13,000 ft deep and could take 3
days or longer to do our job. It was me that had to stay up without sleep,
running the equipment and recording the real time data coming from our down
hole logging tools.

I could generally survive 48 hours of continuous logging. But, there were
times I had to work 72 hours continuous w/o relief. Often after the second
night, and usually at night, I too would hallucinate. All I could do that
helped, was get up and go outside of our 8ft X 10ft unit for a quick minute
and get some fresh air. This was rather scary to me, since I didn't know
what else my body would do, or if it could cause further or permanent harm.
Apparently it did not.

I bring this up as a personal account since it seems to relate to working a
48 hour contest w/o a break. Back then, I could do 48 hour contests, but
now, I'm lucky to make past the first night...

And Dave, I too would hear CW coming from any nearby equipment that made
any kind of strange noises.
