There are hearing aids that offer multiple sound profiles to match your
purpose and adjustable through your smartphone or separate control device.
In the July, 2014 issue of CQ Magazine (at p.16) Martti Laine, OH2BH, not
without some appropriate humor, described his quest for some, shall we say,
extra help via electronics to offset certain effects of aging in the
competitive environment of WRTC-2014. He settled on a product from the
line of LiNX aids from the Danish firm ReSound. Updated versions are
available here in the U.S., if you are interested in exploring their
capabilities. Another option is to try to restore your hearing profile
without a hearing aid, as such using one of the products from the
Australian company Nura. A third option is to carefully adjust your audio
profile using the multi-band receive audio equalizer that now is available
on some transceivers, such as the FLEX signature and Apache Anan lines.
Finally, if your receiver lacks sufficient adjustable equalization
capabilities, you might try an outboard unit such as the MFJ-616 "speech
intelligibility enhancer."
Just some thoughts. YMMV.
