Roger,
CT is software. It can only control the functions that the radio manufacturer
decided should be controlled by software. My Yeasu radio also has a built in
(very poor quality) DVK. But Yaesu didn't think it was an important feature to
allow radio control software to trigger a message playback, so it's impossible
to do via software control.
You would want to get a DVP if you'd rather press the function keys
on the keyboard than reaching up to the radio and pushing the buttons.

Subject: [ct-user] TS-870 Voice Recorder and CT
I have the voice recorder option for my Kenwood TS-870S. It allows me to
record up to 4 voice messages. Each message is activated with a separate
button on the front of the radio. I'm sure many other radios have this
capability. Is there a way to use these messages with CT, i.e. F1, F2, F3,
F4? Why would I want to get a DVP when this capability is built into my
radio. If this function is not built into CT, why not?
