You can, with something like a network analyzer, get the R
and X values and look through manufacturer's data and get an
idea what type core you may actually have, but that
sometimes isn't totally accurate.
In application's like RF suppression all we generally need
to know is R and X anyway, so why go further? If it is a
critical application, you should be buying the correct core.
