While we are on the subject of learning...
I was a bit perplexed by something I read in the April 2009 QST "Short
Takes" about the DX Enineering FCC050-H05-A current choke.
The interior looks great having a pair of binocular ferrite chokes with
three turns each. Having built similar chokes myself I know they will
work well. However the perplexing part to me is how does this device
choke current on the shield when the shield is shorted together through
the case? It would seem this is a shunt path around the balun.
The performance was not measured for the review, but it did improve the
RFI situation as the nice construction would lead you do believe, so I
am missing something. What am I missing here?? It must be something obvious.
