Since we're on this subject - I'd heard of all of those things multiple times. 
So it's not like no one was getting any credit.

My own take on the matter is in a case like this. You do what you have to do. 
And you do it because it is the right thing to do. If you get credit, fine, if 
not, also fine. Yo do not do this for the credit, you do it because it is the 
right thing to do. (worth repeating)

Some folks trying to steal the thunder and beating on their chests, demanding 
to be praised because "WE saved your sorry butts!" is just as inane as the 
Chileans bursting into patriotic ferver  "Chil- EY!!" when the miners were 
hauled up. Both are equally irrelevant.

I personally thought it was an example of what can happen when people work 
together. And that some people came to the brink of death and were hauled back.

Rejoice, they were saved and a lot of people went of a lot of effort to do it!  
Addressing this as some sort of political thing is  just very sad, but have at 
it if you will. 

That's my .02 dollars.
