Let's face it: switchers are here to stay for a long time. Between energy efficiency regulations and IEC requirements for improved power factor, linear supplies with iron core transformers are not attractive alternatives for most products. Besides that, increasing costs of copper and transformer-grade iron makes a switcher cost effective at lower power levels than before.
