My next door neighbor had solar panels installed today and I'm now
getting S-9 "hash" across most of the HF spectrum. I contacted my
power companies TV and Radio interference department and they will be
coming out this week to investigate.
I know that each installation is unique so I guess there's no sense in
providing the group with a spectrum screenshot or audio clip of the
interference - not sure if that would be useful to others.
The power company will usually provide the type of components that are
causing the noise so I will report the results of the investigation as
soon as I get them.
Unless the power company installed the system, they will be of little
help beyond a documentation point.
Start an RFI log now, write down everything you know, who you spoke too,
dates, times, etc...
Let the owner know that this must be corrected in the kindest of terms,
but in no uncertain terms, and then add that discussion to your log.
My guess is that the power company will tell you it is the company that
installed the panels who is responsible. If so log that as well, then
contact the company that installed them...
Always be nice, you have a won position here, the company that installed
them must correct the problem, don't do anything to jeopardize your won
position, keep notes.
If they get resistive, be kind, but be firm that the RFI is not
acceptable. The ARRL has a fillable form you could use here:
http://www.arrl.org/files/file/RFI/Custom%20RFI%20Handout.pdf
Use it only if needed... Please post all your results, as I am
interested in how this works out.
