That's the cost of LiFePO4 chemistry, Ken. Bioenne's batteries include the circuitry needed to balance the charge between the multiple cells that make up the battery. Those from batteryspace.com, (good people, good products) require add-ons to do that.

Offsetting that cost are three very important factors. 1) Ham transceivers produce significantly less IMD (reduced key clicks) at higher DC supply voltage -- they need to be close to 13.8V to be cleaner. Terminal voltage of LiFePO4 chemistry stays above 13V for most of its discharge curve, above 12.5V for the last 20%. Terminal voltage of Lead acid is below 12V for more than half of its discharge curve.

2) LiFePO4 batteries are good for about 5X the charge/discharge cycles of lead/acid batteries. That means they'll last 5X longer. I've had to replace lead-acid batteries every few years because their capacity falls off a lot.

3) LiFePO4 batteries have about 1/3 the weight and volume of lead-acid batteries with the same Ah capacity.

A 100Ah battery from Bioenne Power. Not cheap.
At $862 each, and over $950 with their noisy charger, most certainly not.

Sheesh...:-(
