I have a single stage furnace that's about two years old. I did my
homework and purchased an American Standard (Ingersoll Rand) running
an AC blower motor. It's 80% efficient which is fine in my opinion.
The previous furnace was around 50%. Both are/were completely quiet
on radio frequencies. But, I don't have a large space to heat and I
am on natural gas which isn't very expensive. If you do what I did
you'd better not drag your feet because I've heard the 80% furnace
with AC motor days are numbered if they haven't been discontinued
already. EPA only wants sky high efficiency available which means DC
motors, lots of stuff to break, PVC draining water and a duct line
drawing air from outside.
