You are right Phil, when the sender is non-USOS. A non-USOS transmitter would
transmit "599<space>123<space>123-123". A USOS receiver would print "599 QWE
QWEAQWE".
This might be an overblown problem for real RTTY ops. Anyone who makes enough
QSOs on RTTY knows the QWERTY translation (or have the software to translate
automatically for them). The problem is when you are the CQ station and a
novice comes along and don't see the exchange that they expect to see, causing
an endless loop of AGN? AGN?, until one side finally gives up :-).
