That's why I use the "monitor" button to check. Or a second radio!

I didn't see that one but I had many stations calling me with no shift,
just a
steady mark tone. Normally I'll see this once or twice but it seemed to
happen
at least 15 different times. I just sent "STATION CALLING YOU ARE SENDING
ONLY
A STEADY CARRIER NO SHIFT". Some kept calling and some hopefully went
off to
figure out why their FSK keying circuit wasn't working.
I believe it's important this gets checked BEFORE the contest. hi

Subject: [RTTY] Funny signal
I came across a funny signal during the Roundup. It was another S&P
station,
and it didn't hang around for long enough for me to get a fix. The FSK
shift
appeared to be very narrow, more like 50 Hz than 170 Hz.
So, if you'd S&P without getting too many replies, check your shift.
(Omni V
and VI were notorious for producing way off frequency shifts when operated
in
FSK -- their shifts were controlled by a trimmer capacitor.)
