Hi Dave...for some aspects I can agree with you but the main point (for me) is 
WHY YOU PLAY THE CONTEST....

If your target is to gain more DXCCs or IOTAs, depending on the contest, so 
QTCs are unuseful BUT, if your goal is to earn more points in the contest and 
trying to improve your score year from year so QTCs are the most important 
thing especially for little stations.

Actually I do not consider my station as a top contest station, it is very 
small indeed, but my goal is trying to improve my scores from the previous 
years and maybe once to win a contest ... but this is much pretending I know 
:-) ...
I decided to operate mainly ( nearly only) contests. All the dxccs and iotas 
worked till now ( I am licensed for 3 years in February ) are mainly worked 
during contests and NOT chasing them but only working them because they would 
have provided me a point.
