I too would like a solid state amplifier offering. The reality of the
situation, though, is that 811's cost only about $14.00 a piece, are rugged,
and easy to obtain. I'd hate to think what hi-power solid state devices
would cost!
One overlooked feature of the Centaur is that it is full QSK, at no
additional charge. Ameritron's 811 amplifier is PTT only, unless you
purchase their QSK accessory at around $350.00. Makes their 600 watt amp with
QSK cost around $1050, compared with Ten-Tec's $749.00 price tag!
I placed my order for the Centaur with Ten Tec yesterday, by the way, so I
might be biased!
